When you download your e-Aadhaar from the UIDAI website (uidai.gov.in), the PDF file is automatically protected with a password. This is a security measure by UIDAI to ensure only the Aadhaar holder can access their document. If you're trying to open the file โ or upload it to VerifySign.in for digital signature verification โ here's exactly how to find and use your e-Aadhaar password.
UIDAI uses a fixed, predictable password formula for all e-Aadhaar PDFs:
Password = First 4 characters of your name (UPPERCASE) + Year of Birth (4 digits)
The name used is as registered with UIDAI, and the year is your 4-digit birth year as it appears on your Aadhaar card.
Rajesh Kumar, born 1990: Password โ RAJE1990
Sunita Sharma, born 1985: Password โ SUNI1985
Mohammad Iqbal, born 2000: Password โ MOHA2000
Ali Khan, born 1978: Password โ ALIK1978 (name is only 7 chars; first 4 = ALIK)
Om Prakash, born 1965: Password โ OM P1965 โ Note: use the first 4 characters including spaces if the name has spaces before the 4th character.
If the standard password doesn't unlock your PDF, try these troubleshooting steps:
1. Check your registered name spelling: The name used is exactly as it appears on your Aadhaar card โ not a nickname or alternate spelling. If your Aadhaar says "Ramesh" but you tried "Ramesh Kumar", the first 4 letters are still RAME.
2. Confirm uppercase: The name portion must be in ALL CAPS. Lowercase letters will not work. raje1990 is wrong; RAJE1990 is correct.
3. Try initials-based names: If your name on Aadhaar is "A. Sharma", then use A SH (first 4 chars of "A. SHARMA" after removing the dot) or try ASHA. Some older Aadhaar records handle initials differently.
4. Check for spaces in your name: If your first name is shorter than 4 characters (e.g., "Om"), the password includes the space before the surname: OM P + year.
5. Use your name as it appears โ not full name: If your name has a prefix like "Dr." or "Smt.", omit it. UIDAI uses only the actual name.
VerifySign.in fully supports password-protected e-Aadhaar PDFs. When you upload a locked PDF, VerifySign.in prompts you to enter the password. The password is used solely to decrypt the document for the purpose of reading and verifying the embedded digital signature โ it is never stored or logged.
After decryption, VerifySign.in validates the UIDAI digital signature and, if you choose the LTV download option, returns a verified PDF. The LTV-enabled output is not password-protected โ you can open it freely while the green tick signature remains permanently embedded.
โข Using lowercase letters in the name portion
โข Using the wrong year (date of birth year, not current year)
โข Using only the first name when the Aadhaar name starts with an initial
โข Using a nickname instead of the official registered name
โข Forgetting to include spaces if the name is short
