Why Does e-PAN Show "Signature Not Verified"?

All e-PAN cards generated by Protean (formerly NSDL e-Governance) and UTIITSL carry an advanced digital signature to prevent forgery. This signature is cryptographically bound to the document content at generation.

When opened in standard PDF software, the certificate chain cannot be authenticated because the intermediate certifying authorities (like e-Mudhra, (n)Code, or SafeScrypt under the CCA) are not in the operating system's default root store.
