Jeevan Pramaan is a biometric-enabled digital service for pensioners in India. Under the initiative of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), central and state government pensioners generate a Digital Life Certificate (DLC) every November to ensure uninterrupted pension disbursement.
When downloaded from the Jeevan Pramaan portal (jeevanpramaan.gov.in), the certificate PDF contains a digital signature issued by the National Informatics Centre (NIC). However, when submitted to banks, post offices, or defense pension authorities (SPARSH), officers sometimes raise objections if the digital signature displays an unverified yellow question mark.
The Jeevan Pramaan certificate is signed using the NIC Certifying Authority's digital token. Standard PDF viewers on Windows, Mac, or Android smartphones do not have the Indian NIC root certificate installed in their default trust store. As a result, the viewer marks the signature as unknown or unverified.
Senior citizens and their family members can verify their Jeevan Pramaan certificate in seconds without any technical configuration:
Upload any government-issued life certificate or pension slip to get an authentic green tick.
